I'm pregnant and want to stay away from products containing Triclosan. Seems like the brands names Crest, Colgate, Mentadent, Aquafresh, and Sensodyne all contain this ingredient. Toothpaste only lists active ingredients on the labels in the stores (ie. fluoride). I did a search on Yahoo " non-Triclosan containing toothpaste" and could not find any mentions of toothpaste products or mouthwashes that don't contain Triclosan.

You don't REALLY need fluoride - TRUST me...

I tried a non-fluoride toothpaste with Xylitol recently and couldn't be happier. Xylitol is a naturally occurring alcohol sugar (found in strawberries, mushrooms, etc) that actually kills plaque causing germs. Sorbitol is the most common alcohol sugar used in toothpaste, but does not actually kill plaque. Since using Now brands Xylitol toothpaste (sold in most health food stores), I no longer have morning breath, and a nagging tooth pain which I had for MONTHS has stopped. Try to find a toothpaste with a high amount of Xylitol, like 25%.

Remember, anything that gets into your bloodstream will also go into your baby's bloodstream, so would you rather that be an artificially manufactured chemical like fluoride, or a naturally occurring alcohol sugar like Xylitol? Also, your gums and mouth are VERY good at absorbing chemicals, so your baby may be getting more fluoride than you think...

Several studies of Xylitol have shown that it can actually REVERSE damage from cavities!

Below is a website I found that listed products that included triclosan, which does note a couple toothpastes (and is not an exclusive listing of products).

I've looked at the toothpaste I use (Colgate Sensitive Enamel Protect) and it makes no comment about triclosan in the active or inactive ingredients; however, both hand soaps I have do have triclosan in it so I'm going to find new hand soap tomorrow. I also looked at my husband's toothpaste (Colgate Cavity Protection) and it does not list trisclosan in the active or inactive ingredients.

ETA - I'm not currently pregnant, but my husband and I are trying. Congrats on your pregnancy! :)

I use Jason Naturals-can be found at Sprouts Sunflower Market, most health food stores and some grocery stores like Fry's/Kroger that have a natural section. When in doubt, mix baking soda, salt to taste and a few drops of your favorite extract such as peppermint or cinnamon (optional). If you are very concerned about what you're consuming, you should not be drinking your tap water or using it to rinse your toothbrush. Use distilled instead.

You can make your own toothpaste, and I attach a recipe. change your search to "natural toothpaste"
