Is there any safe way to file down your teeth (without having to go to a dentist). I have some slight chips on my two front teeth that really bug me. I would like to file them down just a little bit. I don't have money to be spending on a dentist. Any suggestions. Please I don't want people telling me to do the obvious-ask your dentist!

Oh dear God, please don't do it yourself!! The roots in the teeth are VERY sensitive, and if you were to go too far you could actually KILL your tooth, (Turn black and all that other yummy stuff) Also, if you were to file down the enamel, in which the thickness varies all over, you could actually expose the dentin, which is underneath. It would be painful, but it is also very porous. It could collect bacteria and food and rot the tooth. Not to mention stain it at the very least. I know it's hard, but a dentist won't charge too much just to file it down cosmetically. You can usually go in and a Dr. can give you a free estimate! Just call ahead of time and ask. Some offices also have payment plans, though I've never seen a filing go over $50. Good luck, and please don't do it yourself. It's just too dangerous.

Sorry, I'd only let a professional / dentist do that. I went for a cleaning and asked about that at my dentist, he filed mine down for free after the cleaning,so perhaps next time you go ask your dentist about it.

unfortunately you would have to go to the dentist. i know your concern though, it costs money but it is worth it.

there might be tooth filler stuff (temporary) for cracks and chips at the local pharmacy.

but definitely talk to a dentist.

No, there is no way for you to do it by yourself.

You cannot afford to NOT see your dentist. Take care of dental problems while they are small so that they do not become big and EXPENSIVE.

I know it sounds gross, But I had a little rough spot, and I filed it with an emery board(nail file) It gave me the creeps but it'll work if you can stand it. Your dentist will do the same thing just with a dremel like took and charge you an arm and a leg, just don't file too much.
